Woman pleads guilty to sex charge
By The Gazette Staff

A 29-year-old Billings woman accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy pleaded guilty Tuesday in District Court.

Tara Moler appeared before Judge Russell Fagg and admitted to allegations that she engaged in a sex act with the boy. In exchange for her guilty plea to a felony charge, prosecutors will dismiss three other felony charges filed against Moler.

A plea agreement in the case calls for prosecutors to recommend a sentence of 10 years with the state Department of Corrections with all but 30 days suspended. Moler may choose to spend 90 days of house arrest in lieu of the 30 days in jail.

Defense attorney Jay Lansing will ask for a lesser penalty of a deferred sentence. The 30 days in jail or 90 days of house arrest are part of a joint recommendation by the prosecutor and defense attorney. Moler must also complete sex offender treatment.  Fagg scheduled a sentencing hearing for July 10. Moler remains free on a previously posted bond of $20,000.

The investigation began last October when Moler telephoned the Billings Police Department and said she wanted to turn herself in. Prosecutors alleged in court documents that Moler had a sexual relationship with the boy between May and early October.
