I must concede to MRA that "Brokeback" did get exposed ad nauseum for a while, and I felt sure it would win Best Picture, just because of the hype.
And does anyone else feel that Terrence Howard was
robbed when Best Actor rolled around?
For me, this, and that homogenous little valley-girl Reese Witherspoon winning Best Actress, were the biggest upsets of the night.

C'mon, guys. The entire reason we have the Oscars is so that films which excell artistically can receive the notice that they deserve, rather than simply the same recycled box office smashes year after year. Just because movies like "Terminator 2" and "Shrek" are loved the world over by many, many people does not necessarily make them great hallmarks of cinematic achievement. These awards are given in the spirit of celebrating serious film-making, and while I don't always agree with the Academy's picks, I think they more or less nailed it this year.

Just wanted to remind you all of the attitudes and prejudices we're up against. - This woman not only wonders why her husband cannot forgive her for assaulting him, since men are not supposed to have feelings, but then tries to pull a 180 and make it about HER emotional grievances. Do you guys think she's serious, or just a message board troll trying to gauge our reactions?

My best wishes go out to you all. I can relate almost 100%. I've made such a conscious effort to de-sensitize myself in every way toward women and deaden my emotional needs that I've pretty much given up on them entirely. I don't even let this stuff get me down anymore, or at least I try to appear not to. It may seem a little premature for me to concede due to my age and general inexperience with women, but I've seen enough of what happens to hopeless romantics to know that I don't want any part of it. Let's just hope and pray that these things get brought out of the closet and addressed someday.

Ugh. A Hillary vs. Condi race would be horrible. They support the worst policies of both the Democrats and Republicans - the Democrats' support of the welfare state and the Republicans' support for the warfare state.
I can't put it any better than that. Fascism isn't a left or right thing, which is what a lot of anti-Bush folks (including myself) forget from time to time. Hillary is an excellent example of a left-wing Fascist. Just look at her crusade against nudity in video games. She's out to censor what she disagrees with, and this is the very definition of a Fascist belief system. For my fellow liberals who think Hillary will be the lesser of two evils, I say don't be so quick to believe it. So far, her policies and leadership style has been quite different from those of Bill, whom I consider much more of an Egalitarian and would gladly vote for again.

No you're not, Beste. In fact, I'm completely stupefied right now. I can't believe that this has actually happened. Don't get me wrong, I'm pro-life on a personal level. But does that mean that I believe abortion should be banned? Absolutely not. In an era of teen pregnancy, young girls and boys throwing away their futures, impoverished families just keeping their heads above water with an already growing number of mouths to feed and precious little money for contraceptives, this abortion ban is a dangerous precedent.

Of course, not everybody with one or more of these names will fit the axiom, but if you should meet someone named Wayne Lee Ray or any combination of three out of four of the above names, it is strongly suggested that you practice caution.

Wow. The article doesn't even bother to mention how the child himself feels about what is going on. I'm sure he doesn't want what is, at best, an unnecessary surgery which will forever alter an organ he has already grown accustomed to. Hasn't his mother even pondered for one moment what a harsh transition this will be for him, let alone the trauma which will result from him being FORCED to undergo this procedure?! It's quite simple. Ask the kid how HE feels about the notion of a doctor snipping off an eighth of the skin on his penis. I don't care how much his mother's lied to him about the "benefits" of the surgery. If he's like I was at his age, he'll say or do anything to keep from being put under a surgeon's knife.

Yesterday was the best Valentine's Day EVER! No, I didn't have a special someone to spend it with (other than my family), but it still ruled!
After I got out of class at 11:00 AM, my dad and I went driving around because neither of us felt like going home. We cruised into a junkyard (yes, a junkyard) to browse around and see if we could spot some cool cars or travel trailers. I'd never navigated such cluttered, unpredictable terrain before, so, while dad knew exactly where to step to avoid any accidents, I landed both of my feet smack dab in the middle of the deepest, muckiest mud puddle I've ever seen. I was ankle deep in mud and couldn't get out. I literally fell over, right into the puddle, and lay there for several seconds, bewildered and horrified.
My black shoes were now a blotchy taupe color, and thoroughly ruined. I had to go into the Salvation Army to buy some new shoes. I found a butt-ugly pair of tannish leather casual shoes, very 70's looking, with red stripes. They looked like outdated bowling shoes, but I was amazed at how comfortable they were. Being the person that I am, dressing first for comfort with style as a close second, I decided to buy 'em. While we were there, dad found this jaw-droppingly amazing silver sharkskin suit. It looked like something that came straight off the set of GoodFellas, and, quite to my surprise, it fit me almost perfectly (except for the sleeves). Of course I had to have it!
So now, I've got a comfortable pair of horrendous looking shoes, and a brand-new sharkskin mobster suit in my closet, waiting to be altered. All because of a trip to the junkyard! Yes, it was definitely a Valentine's Day to remember. Or should I say "Valentimes" Day, as that seems to be the way our local radio DJ's pronounce it? But then that's a whole other story.

One of my best friends went through a relationship (I suspect his first) with a woman who only wanted a friendship with favors. He was after a long-term relationship, and it broke his heart pretty thoroughly. He wasn't the same for a long time afterward. Kinda makes me wonder where the stereotype of the monogamous woman and the commitment-phobic man comes from.

I do admit that there is a lot of heightism going on in all cultural spheres, especially against men, but while height or lack thereof may not be changeable, the supposed disadvantages are hardly out of our control. I'm just over five feet myself, and I can't say that I've ever truly been discriminated against because of it. People DO judge a book by its cover, and at first, people will make assumptions based on your height. But I've found that once you get to know people and you give your personality a chance to shine through, even being upfront and confident/proud of your shortness, people will respect you all the more for turning a disadvantage into an asset. A self-deprecating but cocky sense of humor helps a great deal!
So, yes, being short can be a drag sometimes. But it's not NEARLY as bad as people make it out to be. This sounds like complete B.S. wishful thinking and denial on my part, but I actually would not change my height, even if I could. It's my trademark!

All this does is divide. It's too bad we can't look at everyone's contribution as having value and importance instead of all this 'I'm better', 'no, I'm better'.
Who raised all those smart inventors and discoverers? Probably women.
