Australia is getting the C17 -- a $300,000,000 airplane.

This is a story announced by a female news woman and featuring a female mlitary officer who will head up the wing of C17s. There are men in the background but no man says a word.

Very impressive!
Until it comes time to double park one of those babys.
I understant the oil dipstick itself weighs 45 pounds.
Where do you take one of those when "it's making that funny noise again"?

well - as you know, a man should be seen and not heard. [/sarcasm]

Good airplane.

I've taken a few flights "Space-A" on them (Space-A is Space Available - you can ride for free if there is room)

I have jumped out of those - not as good at the 141, but better than the 130.

Jumping a c5, is like jumping out of a warehouse! laugh

Being in artillery, we needed HEAVY lift.  If you want to see something interesting - watch a 10 ton truck burn in under a tangled canopy.  You do not want to be under one of those things!

If it is more reliable than the damn C5 then it is good! C5s tend to have a record of being lucking to get off the runway before a breakdown. They just keep flying them to the destination with warning lights flashing all over the place but they still are a mess for reliability. Now the old C141 is about as reliable as it gets. We just finally retired a "Freedom Bird" from Vietnam that still has all the writing on the inside from POWs coming home. It wasn't exactly new when it was doing that duty either!

BTW Beene, if you ever do a stop over at Wright Patt in Ohio, let me know. I used to work at the PAX terminal and my wife still works at TMO there.

I have flown space - A on c-130's, C-17's and C-5s.

To be honest the C-17 was the best, you just take a blanket and spread it out and watch a movie (DVD player) or read.  On the C-5 you have airline type seats, but they face backwards and are not great for comfort.

Forget flying Space -A on the 130, it's NOISY and cramped ... oh, and the seats SUCK.

Oh, and on another note - ever notice the C-5's break down in HAWAII and not Guam, Johnston Atoll, or any other hell hole?  And, dontcha know, the pilots coincidentally have reservations on the island for some fun?  Not to mention the per diem in Hawaii is higher than most places.

Nice scam for the flight crews ..... "Oh, gee, our next stop is Hawaii, and look, we BADLY need maintainance ... just NOT in Guam or some shithole"

Drove me nuts when I was flying Space-A.

At least when you get to HI you can have a little fun yourself and book a civillian flight.  :D
You may sleep soundly at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence upon those who seek to harm you.

Makes you wonder if the two babes were interested in the performance of the plane or how "icky" the bathrooms are.

My first two jumps at Airborne school were C-17's. Lots of room to move around.

I've done nothing but 130's and blackhawk jumps since :/
