Galt, many rulers in those times hid their sexual orientations - look at Rufus, James I,  etc...  As if it matters.   There is a certain percentage of the population that is gay.   And there it is.

The church had a few too - naughty homosexuals, and naughty heterosexuals...

But to my way of thinking, the church survived, and it is not responsible for feminism.

Even if I am willing to accept that at one time there were female Bishops, etc -

Apparently, there was also a female Pope - although she hid the fact that she was female, Pope John VIII (9th Century)?

Almost certainly an urban myth, though it was more popular in the middle ages than in our feminist era.

Don't think I don't take my shots at feminists as well.

Well they may get collateral damage, but you seem to have your sights on Christianity.

How quickly they forget.

Take a look at "The Ring".

Well what I know of you comes from this thread.  Here, you didn't seem all that concerned with feminism.

If you hate feminism as a radical ideology, you'll be in good company on the main board.   I don't think the rank and file posters blame Christianity for the current mess.

Yea, I've been poking around & it seems as though there is a decent amount of feminism critiques. ...Good stuff.
HER body, HER choice...  HIS responsibility?

My late Granny - God rest her soul - had a term she used, and that term was "common." She was an old-school southern Lady, and there were certain things that were just not done by anyone with any education, because to be common was equated with being ignorant. Gentlemen did not hit ladies, and it wasn't merely because a Lady wouldn't strike first - a true Lady would not treat a man in such a fashion that would merit her being struck if she were a man. It would have been unthinkable to her to embarass her husband in a public venue, disagreements we conducted privately. Any request, no matter how urgent, included the word "please," as in "Will you please get me a clean bandage so I can apply it to this gushing wound?" Something so small as passing her the salt earned a charming, "Oh, thank you, dear."

And anyone who thinks that she was a weak and deferential woman who....

I intentionally let that trail off.   I'm a southern girl - you too?  My family is all from the south, and I was raised there, with those values.   You said "Yes Sir", and "No Ma'am".   I still find myself doing so with older people all the time.   And yes, I hold doors for everyone.  It's the way we were taught.   It's just second nature.   Just something you do.

And anyone who would think either my maternal or paternal grandmother was weak in any way should have known them.....   both are dead now, but they were both strong women.   That said, their husbands were the heads of their households.   I'm not sure if that's just a southern thing, but it was when I was growing up - without question.   And I think we were better for it - as a family, I mean.

Sorry for the rant - and yes, Gonz, my granny used the word "common" too.   lol....   "dead common" was her favorite.   She had a number of other phrases too.   Where are your people from?   This could be funny.

Richmond, Virginia.  The Johnstons.

And yes, THOSE Johnstons.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the Shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for I am the MEANEST son-of-a-bitch in the valley.

Even they aren't gullible enough to fall for that once you teach them to shave their legs and read.
