There's a massive thread (lots of posts) on the imdb.com website called "seems to break all the superhero rules" - about whether or not she is in violation of superhero rules.  Some of those people are really serious.

I didn't even know that there was an established professional conduct code for superheros, much less anything about specific provisions.  That's how out-of-the-loop I am.

"Another movie that excuses abusive female behavior by making said woman out to be crazy in a funny, cute way."

Just a reflection on how in real life, when a woman acts like a crazy insecure neurotic abusive psycho bitch, everyone shrugs it off because after all she's just a woman, and you know how women are...

The annoying part is how nobody sees the hypocirsy... "women are strong and every bit the equal of or better than men, more capable, blah blah... except when their hormones that they have no control over because that's how women are cause them to be  childish irrational and completely dysfucntional" somehow makes sense in the minds of most folks.

"Strong independent capable helpless irrational dysfunctional children"- talk about the best of both worlds!

Looks like another movie stereotyping woman as being crazy.

Right.  We are supposed to love this women.  She's cast (literally, actually) as the hero.

Taken as it is, the movie appears to support psycho behavior (for women  You'll note that she gets what she wants in the end, by the description, and, I'll put money down that he's shown as being happy with the final outcome as well.

well, there is a difference between a movie that shows the bad behavior of a group and condemning it as it should be and one that shows it with the intent of making it seens like something positive. Women are not victims of it.

It is not possible not to see the difference. What the previous poster said about you is right

The only thing worse than a feminist is a cowardly feminist. With the growth of the men's movement and increasing general awareness about men's issues, there seen to be more and more of the latter kind. :)

I think it's another stupid movie made to feed the movie going tastes of either very immature, or sub-intelligent people.  The kind of person who thinks Jackass is funny.

Analyzing a movie like that seems to me to be almost as bad as the people who watch this kind of fluff. If this movie means X does that mean the big baby movie (what ever it's called) is an attempt to infantize grown men?

For the person who enjoys critquing my posts did it ever cross your mind that my statement was a simple way of saying that those who see bad in other peoples actions are going to see it no matter what you throw at them? I'm sure somewhere there's a feminist blog complaining about the movie as you are... but your right and they're wrong.

Can anyone tell me what exactly is funny about a man getting beaten up because he broke up with a woman?

There is nothing funny about it - I've seen that trailer in front of the last three movies I saw, and everytime it got a huge laugh from the cinema. WTF? When did abuse and stalking become funny?

On the other hand I really want to see http://www.thebreakupmovie.net/ - the trailer for this looks awesome. They break up but can't decide who moves out (the bloke says "I think the only fair solution is for her to move out and then pay some sort of penalty").

Sorry Galt you're out of touch with 'the kids'

A guy I work with keeps talking to me about how the Hulk was going to fight Thor and win, because Thor fought some guy and lost and the Hulk then beat the guy to death, so when the showdown happens the Hulk's going to win. I keep saying "Well what if the Hulk's mind is on something else, or he gets something in his eye He might lose, surely?"

Apparently not. Some comic people take it all too seriously  :?

Although I'm pretty sure that if in Superman Returns, Clark Kent beat the crap out of Lois Lane because she'd got married to some other guy, he'd get laughed out of the Justice League. And the film probably wouldn't be a comedy.

Maybe this is a safe way to discuss masculine values?

Just go to a comic book convention. If you can stand the thousands of fanboys, they'll be willing to explain it you. (I suppose I could since I'm one of them, but I'd like to keep some semblance of diginity.)

I saw that movie when I was in Europe a couple of weeks ago.  It was suprisingly good.  The acting was top class -I guess because they are lovers in real life.  It wasn't much of a comedy though, more of a drama piece.

Is this movie good and bad news? Couldn't this movie be a metaphor for current society? Women have all the power (superpowers), women are terrific, can do marvelous things, because of that are therefore superior.  But, don't do what they want and they'll punish you - abuse their power. Could it be actually showing what is happening to men and society through that idea - the current imbalance in power - using the socially acceptable play that women beating up men is funny? (Beating up men as funny is not a new feminist idea by the way it - a propagated and exploited one yes - can be seen in the earliest cinema.) In other words highlights the status of men and women in society today. That's how I saw it anyway - a reflection of todays situation.
