There is a video on CNN just now in the U.S. news section of a Navy Ensign coming home from service overseas and surprising his six-year old son in his classroom.  This reunion is what it's all about; I'm sitting here blubbering like an idiot.  Thanks to everyone who has ever served.

(Can someone smarter than me add a link to the video itself?)

Don't feel bad, I get emtional about our troops too.  Loved that Beccy Cole video on YouTube (if you haven't seen it you should!!!)

I AM one of the troops but seeing others in action or their families chokes me up pretty good too.

I hope no one minds me posting this.

I feel so at home talking to the people here.  Not sure how this will be received.

There are so many 'call ups' for Iraq and Afghanistan.  I keep volunteering.  Not sure how that's going to be taken here.  Look, we're not done there.  We're the ones bleeding, dying, and we're the ones who lose buddies.

Lately we just keep VOLUNTERING ... hell on two lists I voluntered, but so many others voluntered before me, I did not make the list.  (I think my LTC wants me to not go so we keep unit cohesion)

I'm not nuts ... we're not done.  We're the ones bleeding.  WE want to be there.  We're getting the shit done.

I imagine that in the next year if I keep volunteering I'll go back.  I aint got a deathwish, and sure as heck I don't want to shoot anyone.  But, (shut up) I'm a soldier.  I want to finish what is going on.   Just give us the chance and we'll make you proud.

We're a corny bunch, but I WANT to go back to the desert, and I want the CHANCE to do what we started.  I have a WONDERFUL girl .... she's an angel in disguise.  She ... being soft and wonderful, knows she might marry a Soldier.  She being of warm heart, of gentle spirit, is a bright light that sings to me (literally) when I am stressed.  She knows my desire to return.

This mans return was magical.  Why are not more fathers shown this kind of love?

They are Steven, all the time!
It's just that one isn't likely to see it
on daytime TV anytime soon!

If it gets too depressing, hang out near the arrival and/or departure gate at almost ANY US airport!
Wear long sleeves,.... trust me on this one!

Thanks bro.  I get sappy sometimes, esprecially when it's late.

I've got a lot to be thankful for.  I found a WONDERUL gal in Indonesia.  She doesn't want my money, and does not care which country we live in.

I have a great job.  People open doors for me, and I call each person I meet Sir or Ma'am, and they know I am respectful.

Just 2 days ago, we had a guy come home from Mid-Tour Leave, and ALL of use in this town came to see him when he got off the airplane.  His wife was crying, we gave him a standing ovation, his friends came to greet him.

He looked like I did when I came home "yea yea, I've been on airplanes for 22 hours - just let me go home" ... but I know later he'll tell people how his unit and friends were there for him.  I know I did.

Ya know, when I got off the airplane in Anchorage, the new GOVERNOR (Sarah Palin) was there to greet us.  She didn't have to be, but she was.  At the time I was like, "great, nice to meet you, whatever", but now, as I reflect on it, she made it her priority to meet us at the airport.  She is a private person as to her family time - but she took time away from her family to make sure she was there.  Not a media circus, she didn't make a speech, she just greeted us, hugged us, thanked us, and welcomed us.

God speed to this good sailor and his family.

God speed.
