As we know it, men do not have political representation specifically for their gender. Because of our tradition of a male dominated Parliament, there has only been the need to represent every known group BUT men. Over the years, that need has has not only been fulfilled but become dangerously overloaded where women and minorities can enjoy undisputed representation, and to criticise this will only damn the critic as a 'bigot'.
It comes as no surprise that male usefulness in society is also deteriorating which is a problem that gains the needed criticism, yet solutions are rarely found. So many active men's rights groups are cropping up across the world, all working OUTSIDE the political field - each with a very similar agenda that appears to go no further than gimmicks and sloganeering. There are a number of reasons why men's groups do not expand beyond, or get seen as anything other than fringe movements;
no political representation to challenge the influence of politicians who ignore men's needs
only representing 'father's rights' with a blind spot to other men's concerns
a religious and fundamentalist (sometimes right-wing) leaning that often alienates oppressed men
blaming everything on feminism and imagining that only women can be feminists (think about this one)
the lack of unity in men's movements owing to their competitive individualism - a male class system
It is the first point mentioned about 'political representation' that this party is based upon. We do not intend to become a fathers-only group ignoring the plight of the 'little man' and the broader scale of anti-male discrimination in the world.
We will represent men in politics - in employment - in promotion - in society - in the media - in the national health - in legal affairs - in their youth - in their senior years and in all areas of discrimination!
The many layers of man-barring in today's society:
Tory leader David Cameron has followed in familiar footsteps by announcing his call for more women MPs. This means the fashionable discriminatory practice of a demanded female quota on the shortlist where 50% will ALREADY be women. Let's not forget how the prime minister we have did just this when first elected, by opting for the women-only phenomena we now know as "Blair's Babes" - a practice they always insist is based upon merit.
In employment and business there are untold incentives promoting women into positions over the heads of men, creating this unquestionable female managerial sector- which the media seems to love celebrating! The web has a number of resources devised to encourage career women or female entrepreneurs, yet to create the same for men, despite so many falling by the wayside of success, would be considered SEXIST. Whilst it's true that it's still predominantly men at the top of many professions who normally do the headhunting, there are a great many that AREN'T. Feminism has always made the mistake of lumping ALL men together as one big oppressive institute when the truth is - countless men are being oppressed by the "alpha male" at the top who in turn will recruit women rather than male competition.
In the media, TV broadcaster Michael Buerk dared to criticise the new elite regarding the women who were undoubtedly in demand and empowered into prestige broadcasting roles- a mafia he termed the FEMOCRACY. He pointed to the fact that men were being sidelined and left with very little purpose in today's society comparing their usefulness to nothing more than a sperm-donor. With an increase of incentives and benefits aimed only at women such as female-only amenities and head-start advantages in career and lifestyle, who can honestly say he was wrong?
Although it's important to remember that what is happening is MORE than just 'political correctness gone mad' but a "way of thinking" that dates back much further. Since the early days, male chivalry has always adopted a po-faced stance in its championing of the fairer sex which is a sympathy that manifests today. So long as men still possess the timeless instinct to throw their coat into a puddle so that a woman's shoes won't get wet, there will ALWAYS be this primal sympathy - and women will always be selected, headhunted and promoted above their fellow men. This in turn creates the emerging legacy of the "omega male" left on the shelf and scrapheap of disadvantage.
Now that men have become a disadvantaged group, isn't it time they were represented accordingly and afforded the same privileges?
