Use of Anonymizers

I have some exposure to issues surrounding Internet security so I certainly appreciate and understand that there are some people out there who would like to conduct much if not all of their Internet activity in an untraceable manner. A friend of mine always uses anonymizers as well a second machine as a hardware firewall. Most of us do not do this on a regular basis but if you have your reasons for doing so then you certainly have that right.

That does not mean you have the right to visit any site using an anonymized IP address. Nor does it even mean that you should have the EXPECTATION of being able to do so (Rumpled Foreskin). That decision is at the perogative of the owner of the site you are VISITING. The rules are not a secret and the choice is up to all of us to stay or not to stay. If we choose not to accept the rules then a simple "look I am not going to accept this" is sufficient... no harm, no foul, no malice.

No melodramatics.

Guess what? You do not get to vote in elections anonymously either.... nor do you have the legal right to drive a car anonymously or travel in and out of the country. At many sites you do not even have the right to register anonymously (as in a web-email addy)... That is not the case with this SYG but with some places it is.

I like a good fight as much as the next guy (this is an area where Dr Evil and I have always differed) but the anonymized IP issue is simply not an issue worth fighting about.

If it gets rid of the no-dicks no-brains no-intergrity clone-asshole-fuckheads (and I do not know who you are but you do!) then it has as many of my YES votes as can be recorded with a single account.

Anyone can visit this site with an anonymizer (meaning read the posts) ... the decision to let someone INTERACT with the site is clearly up to the board admin.

That's false Cog. The rules were adopted after many of those who were banned had been here for a long time. What you say asumes that a poster has no attatchment to a site. No long hours of work to help develop the site. And then get canned without warning on a whim and a change of rules? Being part of a board isn't like switching your long-distance operator. There is a personal commitment and to just cut people off as this admin did ---- even at the same time as admiting he didn't know anything about the board or the people on it ---- well I don't know the details but that's crappy behaviour under almost any conceivable circumstances. Annie had been posting with some of the people here for, what? Four, five years? So save this bullshit line that pretends taking part here is as impersonal a decision as buying a can of beans. It isn't. This is deeply personal. Anniee's put years in here. This is a big failure for Dr Evil. I'm very disturbed at the direction this board seems to have gone in.

At any rate I choose not to stay at this point. While I have a choice I will exercise it. Given the number of boards I've been unjustly banned from my decision is pretty much dictated for me. Anything less would be hypocrisy.

SYG became popular after SheThinks went down. SheThinks went down because of Anniee and UR. I think the last straw was when someone started posting repetitive pornography at that board.

Anniee and UR have never really contributed anything here. Ever since they've been here, there was a chip on their shoulders.

I'd like to point out: when I posted here, they stayed in the woodwork. When I left, the vampires came out. They, like vultures, only seem to be around when things are dead or dying.

Evil doesn't have to have any loyalty to Anniee or UR. They were nasty to him, and I remember them being nasty to him when Evil said he didn't approve of their disruptive nature at SheThinks.

Evil did the right thing.

Now I am going to go back to cracking and exposing late breaking stories, getting media exposure, and changing the world.

My position was with respect to the use of IP anonymizers and I was not commenting on bannings that may have been content related - i.e. personal attacks (SIC). I am not sure we ever got an unambiguous breakdown on which bannings were for which reasons.

My point reamins. They (SYG) have chosen to exclude participation by anonymous IP's, they have given a reason for this (to prevent clones) and it is a reason I happen to agree with. I despise people who invent ID's just to be able to post with several voices. Say what you have to say with one ID and be done with it. All that other stuff is bullshit.

If you do not trust the board owners to be in posession of your real IP then don't post to the board.

P.S. - Or find more creative ways of masking your IP

When was pornography posted on SheThinks? As far as I can remember, pictures were disabled there. Maybe someone was posting links or something, but I really don't remember that.

Oh and if it really is an issue of grandfathering in long time posters who wish to be exempt from the no anonymous IP's rule then I am sure that if someone has the time to do the coding that it could probably be achieved. Would you be volenteering for that?

David is right in some ways. It is a failure. I would much prefer not disallowing people to post. My hope and intention wasn't banning people.

Anniee and UR were quite aware that personal attacks were not permitted here. They both chose to break the rules. Anniee had two warnings prior to the other day. This was not on a whim.

How's this for a suggestion? How about an arena forum? You know, a place to rant and attack people. Put a "use at your own risk" disclaimer on it and inform posters that this is the ONLY venue for this kind of thing that is acceptable. Admin can bump any post that's objectionable to the arena forum as the top of a new thread and the combatants can continue there as they see fit. As Truth says (paraphrasing) everyone likes that shit (/paraphrasing). That way, those who find these interruptions annoying don't have to watch and the rest can go watch if they want.

Incidently, you can also set it up so that anyone using an IP cloak only has access to the arena forum.

Is it 3 times and you're out, Dr. Evil? My son was given one, no anonymizer so you banned him, that is fine it's your choice. Anniee got 2, and UrnotmeRU got none.

I am in full agreement with David Byron, I would like to officially anounce my position with him. I will not be a member of this community unless these people are reinstated and not publicly chastized without the liberty to defend themselves. They are gone, be done with them and leave it alone, if that is what you wanted, so far I can't see that you do.
I have been here only 4 months, Amber, and you have been very negative in regards to your feelings in this past issue with those two posters at SheThinks. They cannot feed off of anything you haven't put out before them, you are very much in this.

Anyone can see both of their posting histories here and they have contributed, and they have not been any more hasty towards you than you have at them, I suggest you stop holding your breath like a spoiled child while stomping your feet and threatening to leave and never come back. It seems very peculiar that you decided to come back after their banning. Very peculiar, indeed.

I don't need to be involved in this, but I cannot see who you are requisitioning responses from if not the members from this community. I have stated my position, I am aware this will have my posting status comprimised and sooner or later,Amber, you may wind up posting to no one other than Dr. Evil, Dan Lynch and however may others who find the feminist one way street mentality amusing. I can get this treatment at Ms and accompish a whole heck of a lot more than feeding your apathy.
