A little essay recaping on Jimmy Carters warmongering and international terrorism while in office as president.  I always get confused between presidents... Carter was the one who started the Nicargua invasion which led to the USA being called a terrorist state by the International Court of Justice.  But I can't rememeber ... I think at the time of the decision there was a different president that the terrorist attacks were extended under... Reagan?

... we must appreciate him for his efforts to negotiate - I think it was a good choice of the Norwegian Nobel committee right now!

I had always assumed the committe was Swedish.  Nobel was Swedish and the prize gets handed out in Stokholm by the Swedish regent doesn't it?  Well that is very interesting given that Norway has a rotating seat on the security council until 2003 and the Nobel committee are Norwegian members of parliament.

Ok this is funny.

The Security Council Chamber is known as the Norwegian Room. The chamber was designed by Arnstein Arneberg of Norway and was completed in September 1952.

The walls of the Council Chamber are in marble. The doors are set with inlay ash with a torch and a sword as the motif. The blue and gold tapestry made of the same silk material and the chairs of the delegates and Secretariat were all donated by Norway after WWII....

The mural, in oil on canvas, was painted by the Norwegian artist Per Krohg. As seen on all photographs from the Council Meetings, the mural symbolizes a future of peace obtained through man's efforts and the efforts of the UN.

The grey carpet came from the United Kingdom.

All the Nobel prizes except for the Peace prize are Swedish - the Peace price is given in Oslo. Sweden and Norway were in a union until 1905 (do I think it was) - when we split peacefully.

Alfred Nobel was Swedish and the inventor of Dynamite

Alfred Nobel was born in 1833 in Stockholm, Sweden to a family of engineers. His family was descended from Olof Rudbeck, the best-known technical genius of Sweden's 17th century era as a great power in northern Europe. At age 9, he moved with his family to Russia where he and his brothers were given first class education in the humanities and natural sciences by private teachers

Nobel invented dynamite in 1866 and later built up companies and laboratories in more than 20 countries all over the world. A holder of more than 350 patents, he also wrote poetry and drama and even seriously considered becoming a writer.

The idea of giving away his fortune was no passing fancy for Nobel. Efforts to promote peace were close to his heart and he derived intellectual pleasure from literature, while science built the foundation for his own activities as a technological researcher and inventor.

On November 27, 1895, Nobel signed his final will and testament at the Swedish-Norwegian Club in Paris. He died of a cerebral haemorrhage in his home in San Remo, Italy on December 10, 1896.
