Feministing.com is demanding that men pay their girlfriends half the cost of birth control:
http://www.feministing.com/archives/011440.htmlJessica Valenti wrote a column in reply to a recent
Dear Abby column, in which a woman wrote in claiming that her live-in boyfriend ought to share the cost of her $40/month birth control pills, since they already share living expenses. Abby replied that expenses for personal items shouldn't be shared, comparing birth control to Viagra, and suggested that the woman should pay for her own birth control.
Feministing.com
took issue with Abby, saying that it's only fair to expect a man to pay. One feminist commenter actually wrote
this in response to Abby's column:
Dude doesn't chip in, dude doesn't get pussy. End of story.
Let's see... At $40/month, that comes out to $1.33 per day. Half that amount is 67 cents, the daily amount that the man is expected to pay to contribute to "his share" of the birth control costs.
I think that any woman who expects her man to pay as a condition for sex is putting a price on her sexuality. The cheapest prostitutes might charge $10 for a mere hand job, but apparently her price is only 67 cents for full service. Gotta love fairness.
