Off topic - the city of Detroit is spiraling into anarchy

It's about the fact that crime in Detroit is skyrocketing, but arrests are becoming non-existent. There are only around half the sworn police officers there were in the 1990s.

Crime statistics are down, because cops will simply not come out when called. No report is made. That applies to crimes up to and including murder.

As one commenter put it "You can do whatever the hell you want in Detroit". A commenter described how they shoot off weapons on a regular basis and the police never come out.

Another commenter (from Greektown) says it is a hellhole of corruption and cronyism. The former mayor went to jail for a while for perjury, among other things.

Sorry, just had to vent. I lived in that area for a piece of my life and find it disgusting.

I worked in Dearborn most of the time over a 3 year period.  I saw the worse areas of Detroit on occasion with burned out houses and bars on every window.  There are no white faces there.

If I lived in one of these rough areas, I would pack my stuff in my car and drive away immediately.  I cannot understand why people would stay.

But all the "lefty countries" have a small fraction of the crime present in the US.  For the cost of a couple stealth bombers, perhaps some inner cities could be cleaned up and social problems could be addressed?

Not any more.  The crime rates of the rich socialist countries is skyrocketing.  For the exact same reason that we have here in the US.  People from different cultures are  moving in and they do not share the same values.

Those countries, like Sweden didn't strangle their people with massive entitlement programs. Sweden did do this in the 90s but backed way off and provide some ability to grow out of poverty. My bet is Detroit is smothered with massive taxes, regulations, gun laws so people can't defend themselves and disinscentives for companies to come in and start work.

San Fran and LA will soon follow. You take the attitude of soaking the rich and the rich leave. That's what happened in Mass I believe.

I dont remember going to detroit but it is alleged I took a trip there as a toddler
but if it can make Pre Katrina New orleans(in which I lived for awhile) look good, then just burn the fucker down for the insurance money
as far as  detroit and gun control, I dont know about that, michigan is a gun owner state, but the city might have laws
I see Detroit as being  a warning to us economically

There is a video somewhere on YouTube that shows a Detroit city council meeting.

An independent contractor (a white guy - who is sitting at the end of the table) came in to pitch a fairly reasonable idea for rejuvinating part of Detroit. The video shows the council members (black) questioning him - and all you see is hostility and a few outright racist comments.

The city council members don't care a bit about the hell-hole that Detroit has become - they only care about carving out their own little fiefdom of corruption. I'm dead serious about that.

Read all of the crap that the last mayor pulled before he was finally arrested, charged with felonies and removed from office. Unreal. Hell-hole of corruption does not even start to describe the city.

And maybe it's racist on my part (I'm not sure), but it frankly reminds me of some of the corrupt African countries where the dictator and his cronies are all socking money away in Switzerland and buying their mistresses fur coats on United Nations money while the country starves to death.

Dallas and Houston both have majority minority populations and are both democratic strongholds but I see these differences
1. We have a large group of immigrants who work, own businesses, and spend money(for instance, vietnamese laudramat/convenience store owners, pakistani and indian doctors and  motel owners, mexican taquaria and custom shop owners), that offset the negative economic impact on the city by white flight and middle class black flight
2. the lingering effects of the "rust belt" are worse, and businesses didnt wanna deal with the unions up there so they  relocated to right to work states

I think most minorities are conservative, they just don't vote that way. But they all seem to uphold traditional values far more than liberal progressives.
