I'm finally seeing a commercial that doesn't bash men, or boys, women - at least not as far as I can see.  In fact, it's kind of funny, although a little dumb.  I keep thinking I must be missing something.

Well, it is a male voice behind that pig.  And once again, it's the female know-it-all rolling her eyes as she is irritated by the obnoxious male clown.  This scene is all too familiar.  Just replace the male puppet pig with a male chauvinist pig, and right there you've got the usual stereotypical depiction of males as buffoons.

Good analysis John - the ubiquitous, male clown syndrome.  The denigration of the male role is there as you describe, but not as overt as some ads.  I think I've become numbed by the abundance of flagrant male bashing ads.

TheManOnTheStreet

I see it as nothing more than a play on a childrens rhyme/story.. albeit annoying...

The Man On The Street is on the street for a reason.......

That was my initial reaction, but after reading John's comment I have to wonder, "Didn't Goldilocks eat the bears pudding, and break baby bears chair?"  Or, "Does the old woman who lived in a shoe have so many kids she doesn't know what to do?"  I bet we never see a rehash of a nursery rhyme where there was any kind of female malfeasance.  I suspect such a rehash would be taken by some PC minded, women's group as a denigration of women and misogyny.

Great point.  If the voice of the pig had been a girl and the driver a man rolling his eyes it would have had a very different feel to it wouldn't it?

Contact dr e  Lifeboats for the ladies and children, icy waters for the men.  Women have rights and men have responsibilties.

Gotta love this Hardee's commercial, though. It takes a little dig at spoiled princesses.

(Their audio/video sync is terrible, but you'll get the idea...)

It's not as male-bashing as the latest GEICO Caveman fishing boat commercials.
