Interesting article, but it starts with the premise that women used to be treated as imbeciles or sex-objects in say the 1960s.  That's not entirely accurate as women were often treated with respect even if their roles tended to be that of housewife.  Contrast that with the way men have been portrayed in the media and ads since the 1990s or so.
