I Thought I better post something here and introduce myself to everyone. I have been browsing this board for a few weeks now and have found it extremely interesting and well-balanced forum for the discussion of men's issues.

I have posted on other boards in the past under the guise of Gatecrasher, some here may know of me. I have recently become disenchanted with these boards and feel I would have more to say here, where your personal opinion seems to be accepted as a valid expression.

I guess I have been aware of men's rights issues for quite a few years now, but never really spoke up too much mainly due to guilt of having these opinions.

I work in a female dominated field and have been the only man in an all female office for 4 years now. Don't get me wrong I love and appreciate women, my mum is one and have had equal amounts of good and bad relationships with them, so I don't really have a I hate women axe to grind.

But more and more I feel that I am living in a hostile climate towards men, be it through the media, government, schools or the charity sector in which I work. I have a lot of contact with organisations and people who work in the field of domestic violence and it frustrates me how single issue minded they are and when I bring up male issues in meetings you can noticeably feel the hostility towards myself.

I hope that I can productively post on this forum and add to the debate, I do not align myself with a single political theory, I see myself as part liberal, part socialist, part conservative, part libertarian and when I am really mad part fascist

Well that's me I hope that you get to know me more as time goes on but essentially I am a post Empire, guilty Brit Male, who is glad they have found a place to share his views and learn more about gender issues.

I look forward to discussing anything and everything with you guys and gals.

Gosh, is it just me, or is this place really picking up steam lately!?  A couple of new members, just in the last week.  Maybe the message is finally getting out there (much to the chagrin of people who would like to keep our grievances suppressed).

Welcome aboard, Wookie!  I think you'll really like it here.  You couldn't hope to meet a more civil, open-minded and altruistic bunch of guys (and gals) anywhere on the net.

Just out of curiosity, since it seems that an increasing number of MRA's are from the U.K., does the movement get sufficient media exposure over there?  You'd be hard-pressed to find any mention of mens' rights in the states, except for the internet, and Glenn Sacks' weekly radio show.

Not at all, you here hardly anything about it IMO. F4J are really the only group that gets a mention.

With the election comming up the focus seems to havbe moved to getting womans votes, with a special programme on the other week where an only woman audeince got to ask the PM questions I am yet to see any only male discussion with the PM

A lot of my friends think I am a bit mad, with the types of books I read, but more and more of them are coming round and reading the books and comming back to me and saying "Wow thats so true" But as to the general media the mens rights movement is just a bunch of bitter and twisted women abusers, that's whay I said that I feel guilty about my opinions as you are made to feel that you are some kind of radical, but too me most of its common sence and none of my views are based on any hatred towards women.

Welcome,

One reason f4j has received media coverage is that it has a strong London presence. No other mens organisation has this with the exception of families need fathers which is ultra respectable.

On April 12 there will be a second mens group with a London presence, Mankind Initiative http://www.mankind.org.uk will have a London branch.

This will cause the media to view us as a national organisation and not just a local issue.

I would urge all of you in the area to join. Those who cannot should join their local groups. I personaly believe this is the great breakthrough.

Best wishes..

Just wanted to say thanks for all your welcomes, I hope that I can contribute productively on this site, the knowledge of some of you guys and gals astounds me and I am a bit nervous as my level of knowledge on the subjects discussed is developing, I have done lots of reading on the subject, you know the usual stuff, Hoff - Summers, Farrell et al

Richard:

I am aware of Mankind and will hopefully become a member soon, I have managed to get your information established where I work and your contacts are in a men's issues leaflet my employers have introduced that I asked for to go along with all the other help leaflets we produce and I have also made our local DV partnership aware of your existence and work, actually we have just been sent your leaflets (very good and well balanced I thought).

Anyway got to get off as the only chance I have to post is at work and I worry that one of the women in the office may look over my shoulder and give me a hard time

Oh yes, could someone tell me how to upload my own Avatar on to the site?
