Viagra

Viagra is a drug that raises blood pressure and increases the risk of stroke. It is also a drug that is marketed to the very people most likely to suffer heart problems- middle aged and elderly men.

One would expect that this drug must have some wonderfully curative effects before society even considered releasing it upon such a vulnerable group, but this is not the case. Viagra cures no deadly disease. It overcomes impotence. Impotence seems at first glance to be a male problem so perhaps we should be grateful for any help we can get- but let us look at the situations where it is likely to be employed. If a man is unable to 'perform' in bed it may be for many reasons. Most likely he is tired. There is nothing wrong with the man who wishes to sleep after ten long hours at work and the woman he lives with should be grateful that he does. Unfortunately she is constantly told to view men as vibrators- sex toys that never tire and have no feelings. A man in this situation may realise that he is in terrible danger because this is grounds for divorce and he stands to lose his home, his savings, his children and his pension.

He may allow himself to be bullied into taking this drug believing that he is at fault. Men are not machines and if a man is treated as a sex toy or a worthless sex slave he will find the whole business of sex disgusting and humiliating. The longer he continues to imitate a machine the more he will be alienated from himself- and the more dead he will feel inside.

If there are women reading this- if you have any love for him at all do not expect him to risk death or paralysis. Do the decent thing and invest in a vibrator. He has the right to sleep.

"Do the decent thing and invest in a vibrator. He has the right to sleep."

"Decent" (middle-aged women) don't own a vibrator - because these ladies (as opposed to aged-out sluts) have better things to do while their husbands are sleeping.   Such as:  reading a (non-fiction) book, making a throw-pillow, (to replace the one the dog chewed up) tallying up current month's (home-business) expenses, going for a walk, pulling some weeds...

These two people simply don't exist in my world.

I agree with you. However, I am curious to see whether you are logically and ethically consistent in this matter. Do you agree that the prevention of male impotence with silicon breast implants and liposuction is as harmful as Viagra?

(Some men feel that the solution to their potential impotence in later ages is that their wives look 20-30 years old for the rest of their lives).

This is way out in left field. I doubt many women get surgery because their husbands can't get it up, or won't be able to get it up. They get surgery perhaps in a misguided effort to keep their straying or potentially straying husbands, but mainly to make themselves feel better.

However, I do not think anyone here would seriously expect any woman to get liposuction to cure her husbands impotance  problems. What Richard was saying is that many men are overtired or have medical problems which lead to impotance. I fail to see how plastic surgery would help in those cases.

Notice how you just excused women "as misguided" for a totally fictional allegation of "straying?"

They only get a boob-job as a self-defensive act, right?

"Potentially straying?"

Is that a crime of suspected possible future intent to "stray"?

You have just played the "Victim Card."

Do you enjoy being a victim? Perhaps profit from it?

Roy, why are you picking on BQ?

You retorted:

BQ is not offering an excuse, she merely posited a motivation behind a woman's decision for such surgery.

They only get a boob-job as a self-defensive act, right?

She never said that, you've created a strawman.

Again, you've created a strawman.

You have just played the "Victim Card."

You're conclusion inapposite coupled with an unfounded accusation of mercantilism.

As it happens I would prefer it if all women were confident not to have boob jobs. Yes they can be dangerious.

I would be absolutely horrified if a man bullied is wife into having them done or else he will throw her from the house and steal the kids.

Of corce men sometimes take viagra out of choice- but we have to be real careful the man knows he is loved anyway.

Thank You, Richard, for providing a fair and logically consistent answer. It is not fair to demand one's spouse to do something dangerous just for one's own fun.

Some men take viagra in a misguided attempt to keep their straying wives or potentially straying wives.

I would say that this statement is not playing the victim card. It is simply stating why some men choose to use viagra. It is not blaming women either. Misguided is used here because dispite what the user thinks, if a partner is unfaithful, something as minor as erectile dysfunction is not going to change this. Just as for women plastic surgery is not going to help a husband stay faithful if the marriage is in bad enough shape for him to stray in the first place.

You read way too into this. Is there something going on Roy? Did I say something or do something to upset you? Your post really seemed inappropriately angry for what I wrote.
