"NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (July 9) - Evangelist Billy Graham's daughter was arrested and charged with domestic abuse after witnesses told police she choked her husband in a parking lot, authorities said.

Virginia Graham Foreman, 59, spent a night in jail after the July 1 confrontation outside a shopping center, police said. She was charged with misdemeanor domestic abuse and released the following day.

Three witnesses told police that Foreman pushed her husband and grabbed him by the throat, authorities said.

A Volusia County judge who presided over Foreman's first court appearance said Chad Foreman told police that witnesses had "just misunderstood what was going on between them.''

No one answered the phone at the couple's home on Friday.

Billy Graham, 86, concluded a three-day revival meeting in New York City last month that he indicated could be his last."

Just a misunderstanding! Standard male response to minimze the situation. Anyone in Florida who can write a letter to the editor in the local paper?

Either a pussy, or smart.  You don't want a DV charge on your record.  Better to do the minimum in self-defense and let the police deal with her.

If you respond to a woman (or sometimes, unfortunately, even if you don't ...), you may go to jail as the man.

I still think the best advice with a violent woman is to try to sort out whether it was an isolated incident due to alcohol or whatever, or whether she is a violent person.  If she is a violent person by nature, you have to get away from her, because eventually YOU will wind up in jail ... or in the hospital.  It's not worth it.

The only reason she was arrested was the very public nature of the incident.  There were witnesses (probably female witnesses  ) to verify her culpability.  Without it being public she would have  been able to keep it quiet and my guess is that he would never have said a word.

Misunderstanding?  What a joke.  When it's women it's a misunderstanding when it's men it is a crime with a bonafide victim.   Notice that no one is playing him as a victim or even hurt.

So what happened to Stephan Tchividjian, Sr.?  Is Chad Foreman an alias or was she widowed or divorced?  If this is a second marriage, was there DV in the first?  Wonder what her minister sons will be preaching on this Sunday?

I disagree. NYMOM is in a class(or lack therof) by herself. See my previous definition of Feministing and insert NYMOM. Sometimes I think she is channeling pieces of Andrea Dworkin.

I think the parts with rabies. I have literally felt like I was getting pelted with saliva in exchanges with NYMOM. Going online with Trish or Amanda's blogs, when NYMOM weighs in, I feel like I need a towel or a shower afterwards. Or both!

She does seem a bit... unhinged.

Typhon, you have a real gift for gracious understatement. You would make a wonderful diplomat.

Ironically, this seems to me that it may be part of a longstanding Graham family tradition.

I was watching Biography the other day and Billy Graham was the subject.  Much of it was about the close relationship he had with his wife.  As part of the documentary they talked to all of the children and there was an interesting story one of the daughters was telling about how when they were kids, Billy jr was teasing one of the girls in the back seat of the car.  When he wouldn't stop, Mrs Graham pulled the car over and made him get in the trunk where he rode the rest of the way home!

They all told the story in an amusing and approving vein.  I wonder how onften any of the girls had to get in the trunk?
"To such females, womanhood is more sacrosanct by a thousand times than the Virgin Mary to popes--and motherhood, that degree raised to astronomic power. They have eaten the legend about themselves and believe it; they live it; they require fealty of us all." -- Philip Wylie, Generation of Vipers
