Not  long  ago,  Title  IX  was   created  to  give  women  equal  opportunity  in education,  including  sports.   It  has  done  its  fair share  of  harm  and  good.   Many  times,  it  has  done  harm.  Many  men's  teams  were  cut  down  in  favor  of  women's  teams.    Many  wrestling  teams   that  were  previously  all-male  have  taken   female  members.
That's   okay,  but  that's  not all.   Many  male  athletes,  particularly  wrestlers,  have  seen  their   sport  teams   being   reduced   in  number
and   done  away  altogether  in  some  cases.  This  is  not  right  or  fair.
Some  changes   are  being  made  (or  so  they say).

Wrestlers, it's always the wrestlers!

Title IX is arguably one of the greatest pieces of social legislation passed in this country. My last year of high school, approximately 300,000 women played sports in this country... mostly in field hockey and gymnastics.

And now, thanks to Title IX, the figure is 3,000,000... having also transformed this country's sports enviroment. I am an avid sports fan, a diehard Celtics fan, but women play basketball fundamentally better. They don't have the strength and speed of men, but on balance they know the game better, and play it better as a team. This should, with time, result in seeing some women coaches in the men's game... if we don't, something is amiss.

I was in an ESPNZone in Baltimore a few years back, a young man and woman, there together, were shooting hoops, it was no contest, she won easily... and it was no big deal to either of them... my generation, such would have been a big deal. It was great to see it play out that way.

This does not mean I condone anyone losing their sport, not being able to play... but the solutions so far are all aimed at gutting Title IX, and that is totally unacceptable. What we need to be doing is finding a way to include more under the sports umbrella, not shifting resources. Le't find a way to get more men and women involved.
o im gonna grab my soul
And leave my ego at the door
I'm gonna open up my eyes
So, c'mon sing along if ya wanna
Cry if ya hafta
Lean back into your lover's arms
Grab the hand of the person
Standing right next to you
Show them we are not afraid of who we are

I'm  all  for   equal  participation  and  opportunity  for  men and women  in  sports.   Wrestling  as  a  sport  suffered  due  to  Title  IX  because  it's  nowhere  near  as  popular  as   men's  basketball  or  football,  which  are  exempt  from  Title  IX.   All  I'm  saying  is  that  if  the  government   wants  to  make  these  rules  for  equality,  they  should give  the  schools  the  money  to  enforce  these  rules,  not  force them  to  decide  which  teams  they  need  to  cut  down  to  please  the dragons  in   Washington.  Many  young   athletes   work  hard  for  a  long  time  in  high  school  only  to   discover  that  their  sport  virtually  doesn't  exist  in  college  and  that   their  hard-won  scholarships  are  revoked.  This  is  NOT  right.   I  don't  care  for  political  correctness,  only  justice.

In  my  mind,    there  should  be   5   men's  teams  for  every  5  women's  teams.    At  the moment,   there  are   5   women's  teams   for  every  3  men's  teams.  They   get  rid  of   2   men's  teams  every time  they   create  1   women's  team  sport.   That's  not   right.  No  one's   future  should  be  sacrificed  on  the  altar  of  political  correctness.    I  won't  have   it.    It's  not  right  and  no  force  on  earth  can  convince  me   otherwise.

If men and women are so equal, why don't we desolve segregated sports all together?  Afterall, it is condesending to have a women's basketball...

Title  IX  -  supposedly  created  to  help  women  in   sports.  It's  only  a  tool  used  by  feminists  to   punish  men.

I'm sorry, but I was the mother of a drama student, not an athlete....you want to talk discrimination and put-downs?  Try being a young high school male who wants to be in the drama club.

Further, in my school district, funds were always cut first from the scholastic/artistic activities.  The football team always remained unscathed.

Sports are great - but where would the world be without entertainment of a more cerebral nature?

PS Although my daughter did manage to get a lot of the football team to participate in "The Music Man" - she was the student director.  She appealed to their desire to be seen holding the prettiest girls in the school....

I actually don't like sports that much especially football and even worst baseball. I only like basketball a little but if some women like it and want to have their own league, let them play.  It really shouldn't be an issue or seen as an interference to the mens league because they wouldn't be even playing together.

They may have changed how it was implemented since I was looking at colleges, but I remember a lot of men's teams being cut in the name of "balance" when there were women's teams at the same school in the same sport (e.g., swim teams) - the difference, of course, was the enormous expenditure on football which had no counterpart.

Personally, I think the way to solve this problem is for colleges to cut loose their athletic programs - let them keep the nominal affiliations if they so choose, but keep the money and admissions separate and run them like "club teams" or minor leagues.  Then colleges, if they so choose, can reimplement an athletic program that's centered around the student body, rather than a bunch of ringers and outside sports fans.

All  men  want  is  a  fair  deal  when  it  comes  to  life.   Unfortunately,  the  feminazis  don't   understand  what  fairness  is.  Misandry  runs
amok.   Until   the  government  stops  listening  to  the  misandrists,  no  man  in  America  is  safe,  whether  he  works  in  sports,  business  or  is  self-employed.   Just   being  male  makes  him a   target.

I can understand when you say you feel prejudged when it comes to courts and child support situations but how is it really hurting men in business and sports when they hold the highest positions? To me, men are not failing as some of you pessimists see it, women are just getting more successful.  Also were do you get terminology like " misandry and feminazis" from?  You can tell you all read the same literature and be talking to eachother because you share the same ideas.  Not judging, just noticing.

MD how can you understand? You have consistently shown your indifference and your disregard for the male.  I would suggest that you read some of Warren Farell's work, especially "Why Men Earn More". It takes the most basic of questions and expands upon it. The question being along the lines of why would any business employ men, if women got paid less for the same job?

So MD are you going to join the armed forces and fight for your right to fight on the front line, to do patrols in Iraq? When you do, then I know that you are sincere about equality. perhaps someone could tell me the number of American Women have died in Iraq as compared to the number of men.
