Women suffer from 'gender pay gap'

Women earn an average of 27% less than their male colleagues, according to new research.

Men receive average annual salaries of £30,948, while women lag behind, earning just £23,977 on average each year, according to salary comparison website PayFinder.com.

There is also evidence that the gender pay divide is getting worse, as the gap between men's and women's pay has increased by 3% during the past year.

The difference between men's and women's salaries is biggest in London, where men get paid an average of 35% more than women at £39,022 compared with women's £28,833.

Men get paid an average of 32% more than women in the East Midlands and the South East, while they earn around 30% more in the North West and South West and 29% more in Scotland and the East of England.

The gender pay divide is smallest in Northern Ireland, where at £25,998 men earn only 15% more than women, who can expect £22,581 a year, while they get paid 19% more in the North East, and 21% more in Wales, according to the details of more than 160,000 people who have registered with PayFinder.

One reason why women get paid less than men maybe that women tend to shy away from wage negotiations, with 66% of women claiming they are too scared to ask for more money, compared with just 24% of men.

CJ Brough, of PayFinder.com, said: "This year's PayFinder report highlights that sex discrimination is still rife in the workplace.

"Invariably discrepancies in salary are explained via a difference in ability, which in turn is based on skill set and experience. Aside from the legal ramifications, it's a nonsense that gender could be a factor in determining salary level.

"Why then do we see such a marked difference in male and female salaries? And before anyone cites female job choice as a possible cause, PayFinder also shows that regardless of industry and indeed role, men still earn more than women."

"Bites Tongue"  This crap has been pounded so many times into the ground I'm sick of it.

If women decided to actually take on the most dangerous jobs, work more hours,  and Not interrupt work by having kids they'd all be whining how they have to do all the work and Men are lazy bastards because of it.

Gentleman is a man who consciously serves women. I prefer the golden rule.

Behind every great man, is a
parasite.

Women who say men won't commit, usually aren't worth committing to.

could this be the reason why?

seriously, if it's admitted that women don't even ask, and are less likely to take certain jobs and work more hours, how can anyone be accused of discriminating against them? it's not like bosses go up to their employees and say "would you like a raise?"

Absolutely correct!

Where is the man, the ONE MAN in political power who would dare to stand up in front of the world and say, "the Empress has no clothes!"

Stally, you are being too kind by saying they are merely ball-less!

Do you see how these articles are used to stir up hate towards men by implying that men are deliberately paying women less?

How many of these articles have their been through the years?

Each time such an article comes out, what are the personal effects accross the millions of people in society? How many arguments are started? How many men and boys suffer the icy stare? How many relationships are damaged through the hate being stirred up?

And then it happens again next week, or next month.

And then again, and again.

If this amount of misrepresentation leading to hate-stirring was being directed against one person, a celebrity perhaps, they could bring a lawsuit against the media outlets for millions of dollars.

But the scale of this hate-stiring is almost beyond price and beyond comprehension as it has been against all men, and its been going on for decades.

They should have ended the article right there.  Women get paid less because they earn less.

End of story.
"Men in teams... got the human species from caves to palaces. When we watch men's teams at work, we pay homage to 10,000 years of male achievements; a record of vision, ingenuity and Herculean labor that feminism has been too mean-spirited to acknowledge."  Camille Paglia

See, no need for an essay.  It's really quite simple.

Actually, I'll let you in on a little secret.  There's a two word solution to women's woes that they can easily put into practice regarding the "wage bullgap."

Ready...

It's easy, watch...

Shut Up  :D

See?  Easy.  That's all the have to do really.

I wonder if a lot of feminists even really care about what women in general could do if they wanted to earn more money.  Probably the worst thing that could happen is the loss of victimhood that would come with equal outcomes.

Some things are obvious, though: Majoring in engineering instead of women's studies immediately comes to mind.

Galt

How come I only see "studies" on the alleged wage gap and never on the gap in inter-gender transfer of money?  Since more women marry up, since more men pay dates and vacations etc., you have to think that there's a pretty massive inter-gender transfer gap.

In fact, that may explain part of the wage gap.  If you are married to a guy putting in the grueling work to pay for your life, you may be less inclined to take on a dirty, hard or stressful job yourself.  And why?  A fun job certainly makes more sense in that situation.

Raymond Cuttill

Hi Galt,

You want a study of outcome, rather than money taken home by whom? Not a chance! First look who's doing the studies. mostly feminists. I've heard a feminist talk about her father many years ago bringing home his wages and giving it all to her mother but in the feminists mind her mother was still oppressed.

Regardless of who earns the money one could ask who spends it.  Whether he gets a new computer or she gets a new lounge suite.  You might find that on an average night out women often don't buy their drinks or theirs meals. This could be the equivalent to a significant wage rise. We could even hear about a Spending Gap, how men don't get as much spent on them as women do.

If pigs could fly...
