OK, I've found an analogue to the boy bashing shirts

Look at all these New Jerseyans!  I lived in Asbury Park for quite a while as a kid.  (One of the reasons I was so interested in your story, Mary, was that several of my friends from NJ have gotten married.  One guy's wife treats him like garbage, and I actually suggested that he consider divorcing her!  This was before I knew how the law was arranged.)

That "no to marriage" shirt is a laugh but the rape ones bother me.  It's just the kind of thing the feminists want to see, to justify their shrill rantings.

Wearing shirts advocating hurting anyone, even in jest, is very inappropriate and there is no reason for anyone in their right mind to wear them.

This is my opinion also. Of course, I'm not the one to universally define who anyone-in-their-right-mind is and what right-mind actually is - so if you want to wear them, wear them.

I personally find all those rape-as-fun T-shirts sick.

BTW:

I would only wear it to stir the pot, not to make any real statement.

Isn't this exactly what they say, when it's the other way around?

Slaytan, "who's in their right mind" has already been defined; I think it was by Red Sox pitcher Bill Lee a few years back.  You need one of these T-shirts!

Haha, Kyo, a good one!

BTW: I'm left handed, no joke.

I've never been to Asbury Park.   I did, however, just get back from Wildwood.

I could be wrong, but my perception is that Jersey is a little bit better than PA.

A clarification:  I don't think offensive t-shirts should be prohibited.  I'm a believer in First Amendment rights.  A true believer.

But that doesn't mean I don't have the right to tell someone her shirt is offensive.

You have every right to tell them, and you have the right to call them a prick and an asshole as wel, and a dumbshit, M.F.er, sacreligious whore, or any number of unpleasantcies.

The woman was not wearing an "offensive" anti-Bush shirt. That makes it sound like she was asked to take it off for political reasons.

It said, in huge letters, Meet the FUCKERS. There were pics then of Bush, Chaney and Rice I believe.

I think, correct me if I am wrong, that wearing a shirt that said FUCKERS was the problem, not the anti-bush statement, especially in a public place with lots of children.

Personally, I did not find any of those rape shirts, especially the baby one, even remotely funny. I did really like the cage one, the driving one, sluttly girls one.

I do not like the ones that suggest hurting boys either. Maybe I am just brain washed, or maybe two wrongs do not make a right. I think the rape ones sound hateful, where as the others will be a real conversation starter . I would shut down any converation with anyone, male or female, that was wearing a rape shirt like those, I just don't think it is funny. But the others are so tongue in cheek, in the way the boy shirts are 'supposed' to be, that conversation would be possible. (I do not think the boys ones are tongue in cheek, but that is the defence their makers give.)

I kinda like this one.  It makes you think and does not advocate violence.  The play on "does this make me look fat" cliché disarms the statement, but still implies that the man feels selfconcious...

Could be right, a 70-80 yr old woman (acordng to police) could be offeded by this "Bollocks to Blair" T-Shirt

I LOVE YOU!!!!!   :1luvu:

Actually, Al is touring England in the next few weeks.  I was invited by my list members in the UK - but I couldn't accept.  I just couldn't. But I will be going in March or April.

BUT we US list members got him a Red Colorama for his 60th birthday.

I also enjoy listening to Al Stewart and a pity you couldn't make it here for any of the concerts.

I would have complained. That sort of blatent use of obscenitites to get a reaction is not free speach, it is stupidity. You have a right to say what you need to, but not exactly HOW you want to, if it is obviously offensive and inappropriate. What the hell was she thinking wearing that shirt knowing there would be kids around.

She is an idiot. God help us all from idiots with a copy of Constitution for Dummies in their desk.

Vulgarity does not make free speach.
