The Biscuit Queen

I had an incident, that while having absolutely nothing to do with men's issues made a good point.

I was discussing canine freestyle with the woman who started the sport in the US. She asked what i did with my dog, and I said I did a lot of jumping in my routine. She asked how many jumps, and I started thinking of all the variations of jumping styles I did-over the leg, over my back, vaulting, through a loop made by my arm and leg, through my arms, etc. Before i could say anything, she said "let me guess. You have one, maybe two jumps. You do these a bunch of times in your routine, everyone applauds, and you think you're great." Trust me, I remember every word.

All I could could say was "Ouch."

I said nothing else.

The next day she apologized. She told me had I gotten defensive, she would have ripped me apart. But what i said made her realize that she was being mean spirited and had hurt me without provocation.

I think that sometimes a very minamalist "ouch" goes a long way.

No way I could accept an apology after an arrogant comment like that.

I decided at that time that God had things to teach me, and I must take them where he left them. That woman went on to teach me a great deal that weekend, more than nearly anyone else had concerning dogs. I benefitted from forgiving the comment. And she benifitted from the ball getting put back in her court, so to speak.

My point is, sometimes when somone says something really nasty, a simply minimal answer such as "ouch" really makes the person think more than a well thought out offensive strike.

My friend and her friend got to talking about animal rights. This conversation switched over into the rights of women and children.

These two women got to talking about how men used to be able
to beat animals, women, and children with impunity, etc. They
were talking like men used to beat their animals, women, children,
etc. regularly but certain heroic figures they named initiated change.

One also needs to have a historical perspective.  If it was legal for men to use corporal punishment on wives (I do not know if it was ever legal - it may just be another feminist myth).

Corporal punishment may have been a norm for the time, but it no longer is...

Did the following people have corporal punishment authority 150 years ago?
Coaches
Military NCO & Officers
Teachers
Husbands
Employers
Police
Priests
Etc

Maybe a good retort to the feminists dredging up the dubious past would be - "150 years ago people were dying from simple injuries and infections because there were no
anti-biotic medicines.  Didn't one of those evil men discover penicillin?  I am sure he did it with mal-intent - he should have been stopped."

Another good retort may be - "I wonder how the Egyptians treated their children."  The woman would probably have a puzzled look.  You could then say "since you were dredging up the irrelevant past, I figured I'd help you out."

The Biscuit Queen,

I think the minimalist approach worked for you because she could see that she offended you, and therefore were a victim and did not want to offend you.  I don't think this approach will work for most men when discussing feminist because the feminist will not be worried about offending a men. They usually say things like  poor male in a sarcastic way, because they often do want to offend. The minimalist approach has worked for me in the past, so long as it can establish me as someone that is part of an oppressed class.

I'd have to agree with jack. A lot of women, non-feminist or not, consider it a badge of pride to offend or hurt men. Because, of course, they are the oppressors.
