Clusterbombs

Here they are. Add in Angry Harry and some other writings until you get a little less than 50 MB, make some of those credit card sized CDroms.

There you have in your pocket the perfect answer to the ladys question "Why not have a dinner tonight?", "Why did you never marry?".

I think you meant 50 MB there  Still, in the near future it may not be a bad idea to create mini-CDs as such, and pass them out. It probably would not cost too much!

And there is another big question, the CCB is extremely useful on the Internet, but how can we also use them to reach people offline? I've been thinking about it, and so far the only real way has been by people reading articles online, and recommending them to others. I will also be using posters in the near future (the first ones will be on my site *today*), and I'll be determining how effective a poster is at linking to cognitive cluster bombs online. If anyone else has an idea, go ahead and suggest it, or, better yet, do it!

In my experience, when 'debating' with feminists, the way I would use cognative cluster bombs in a face-to-face situation is when they bring up some argument like "Women make 75 cents on the dollar compared to a man"  I will then respond with EVERY SINGLE retort concerning women generally wanting the low stress flexible jobs, men working all the 'grubby' ones that women don't want to do, women requiring time off for kids, when some positions just don't work that way, the fact that in most of the surveys, the men work full-time, and the women part-time ect.  I LOVE the look on their face when I hit them with a full on assault when they're planning to be the one on the offensive.  It's a position that they don't like to be placed in.  The only thing you have to watch out for is you HAVE to be on top of your game here, THAT'S where those cd-roms would come in handy  8)

The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it.

If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things.

Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth

The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'

I would like to make credit card sized (50 MB) CDROMS with

0. A label that ensures interest, a simple text  maybe only the text

 The Antifeminist archives

so you could leave some at libraries, the office, pubs for public consumption. After all the title is an important indexing mecanism. You do not want it to end in the rubbish bin or in the drawer just because you ignored the label. Add the version number.

On the disk
1. an index in  table of  some 100 - 200 of the most important articles on the net
2. the the articles themselves on the disk
3. additional indices with different order (by author, by title, grouped by diferentr criteria).

Main index file table layout

Table Heading (source, author, website, the main group chosen) spanning the columns

Article Title,  Author, Short Description (max 100 chars)

in their own columns.

The title of the article is a hyperlink to the internet (original source), the description si a hyperlink to the backup copy on the disk itself.

Dead internet links are irritating, so I consider a local backup copy essential.

I thought of something like this:

http://www.multishapecdrom.com/cd_price.html
http://www.ebusiness-cards.co.uk/cd_business_cards_cdr_cards.htm

of course, the storage medium is not that important, you could easily have a copy on your USB memory stick, maybe just the index file with links to the Internet, if you like.

It maybe a good idea to separate the index with links to the Internet and the index with links to the local copy into their own files.

I just measured the size of Baskevilles articles (2.1 MB) and those of Enrico Furioso (5.4MB) (Angry Harry's Student's Guide To Feminism).

There is a long way to go to 50MB. I would not like to fill it up unless the contents are clusterbombs; I definititely would not like to dilute it.

What else to add? I propose

The original research on domestic violence (women slightly more violent) with a  summary,
a short section with humour (maybe not, perhaps it should be kept dead serious?),
case stories (some with the sexes inversed),
a section on political correctness in general (but clusterbomb standard),
...
(more ideas?)

We need a master plan taking into account

that this should be an ongoing activity, we may create new versions, correcting and expanding  a previous disk and creating new volumes with entirely new contents,

evaluating
 the impact of the disk,

how to minimise loss (sparse distribution; "forget" one here and there),

distribution channels and targets  (politicians, newspapers, judges, ...),

what to include, what to exclude,

alternative media (old paper; keep it short a few articles max per packet)

What to include
Strictly feminism, possibly expand to political correctness

Whom to include

(Make a list of authors to seach.)

What to exclude
Your pet political ideas, socialism, capitalism, libertarianism, economy... when not touching the main theme.

Whom to exclude

(Any paranoid, fringe group, violent extremist, ...)

What do you think?

Peter - Good ideas.  I have been thinking about some simiilar things.  I have been wondering about doing a series of podcasts that would be downloadable and would be in an audio format with sound effects, humor, music etc to create a "show" that is entertaining but also informative.  Each show could be about 15 minutes or less and explain the basics of a particular aspect of men's issues.  I have come to realize that in order to get the word out we need to put it in a format that will make it SIMPLE and EASY for people to hear the message.  Even better if it is funny and entertaining.  I haven't looked much into what it would take to do this but I don't think it would take much money up front to get something like this going.  If they became popular they could be very effective.

Any ideas?

The Doctor is right. We need to address every audiance, young, old, easily bored, intellectual... We must be academically precise, enteraining, simple, polite, rude, ...

Personally, I have a tendency for the precise and academic, ( :)) but I accept all styles with the exception of the dishonest.

Here's an idea:

Begin by deciding exactly what kind of message needs to be communicated. For example, are we trying to explain who we are to a newbie, or are we providing good references, quotes, etc. for the serious activist? Are we trying to go through practical issues (i.e. fathers' rights, false accusations, etc.) or theoretical ones (i.e. patriarchy vs. matriarchy)?

Once we have the idea laid out, we structure all of the cluster bombs into major sections, each being a major point that we are trying to make. A good example of how this can be done is Angry Harry's Student's Guide To Feminism, as everything is placed into categories based on which feminist myth is being debunked.

Within the sections, we have one or two "flagship" cluster bombs, with a collection of others under it. Each section could also have documentation included with it, so that a more serious person can cipher through studies and more involved essays. Audio versions of a few cognitive cluster bombs could also be made available, as well as posters or other paraphenalia. I personally would like to work more on my posters, the first of which are now online.

These are all great ideas. I will have to save this thread for a future time, when either I or one of you can get started on this project.

and by the way...

This way, because sooner or later the Internet links will decay.

I would like to have a very attention grabbing text on the disk, maybe only the text "Antifeminist file archive", so you could leave some at libraries, pubs for public consumption.

Bear in mind you will need to be able to retrieve relevant information quickly so design your database with this in mind.
I have in mind giving each article a reference number and building a simple index that can be searched by name, issue, title etc. This way I only need to maintain the index.
Remember that the more resources you have the harder it is to keep track of it all.
In 95% of things 100% of people are alike. It's the other 5%, the bits that are different, that make us interesting. It's also the key to our existence, and future, as a species.

Interesting thoughts here, re: CCBs.  I myself have been handing out CD-ROMs (loaded with informative articles) for some time now, (to carefully selected "prospects"), so a lot of this rings a bell with me.

Let's not forgot the power of good old fashioned printed paper, which can reach into all sorts of corners that cyberspace can't touch. Entire towns and regions (e.g. college campuses!) can be seeded with massive numbers of carefully written tracts, or even just  simple slogans that will stick in the reader's mind and start to work at a subconscious level. (Examples: "Question Feminism", and "Feminists are not the Salt of the Earth!")

These samizdat efforts may also feature website addresses "for further reading", along with instructions to "copy and spread".

As another thought maybe a set of, say, half a dozen "business cards" each relating to one issue. For example any time somebody makes reference to women earning 75% of mens incomes give them a card with the simple facts in point form. A stack of 50 covering a few issues doesn't take up much pocket space, the info is accessible straight away and most people can easily produce them at home.

And....the entire content of these "cards" (all of the "issues") can be posted conveniently on a website whose URL will appear on each of the cards individually.

I like the idea of introducing people to the issues point-by-point, in bite-sized chunks which the brain can quickly grab hold of and absorb -- and assemble into a coherent, interrelated fabric of understanding.

I would refer to the point-by-point method as the laser technique, because it pinpoints things narrowly and concretely, one item at a time. It doesn't overwhelm the subject by piling too much on his plate all at once.

I also like the the idea of spreading suggestive abstractions, such as the slogan "Question Feminism". I would call this the lightbulb technique, because it radiates a circumambient glow into the mental environment, and gives the subject a high-altitude map of the conceptual landscape which it is desired to make known to him. And again, like the laser technique, it doesn't overwhelm the subject. It doesn't force him to think; it feeds him a cognitive illumination which is effortless and altogether passive on his own part.

These 2 methods -- the laser technique and the lightbulb technique -- ought to be deployed strategically, by turns, like yin and yang, as complementary aspects of an integrated, holistic approach to the work at hand.
