Here's the crux of that kind of injustice: The law is neutrally written, so all looks well and good.  

In reality, though, a judge simply WILL accept it for the most part if a woman says that she has no income (for instance if she is living with her new guy, who is paying for everything).  She will be ordered to pay a very nominal amount, like $10 or $20 a week, which the new guy will just cover for her.  She can carry on with her important business of ... whatever she is doing all day with no work and no kids.

If a man is unemployed, the judge will look at the kinds of jobs he has had, his education etc. and then "impute" a certain income level to him.  That's that, and from that minute on, the guy BETTER find something or he will get in deeper and deeper.  Interest builds up and the amount owed can never be eliminated by a judge (according to the "Bradley Amendment").

A lot of guys just spin out of control of their lives with that.
