Gee, I missed the sentiment of the day celebrating the birth of the US white man that dilligently led half the country to bring an end to slavery against an oppressor that would only respond to war to do so.
But Valentines day is historicly important to remember too I guess. Considering it's origins, expectations, and contemporarily evolved rites of celebration*, I understand the sentiment exactly!
(Edit to add-) -*see
Usher Years of practice celebrating the honor of one's sweetie by having
a manproduce gifts
that appeal to a womans desires-chocolate for the endorphines, flowers (over priced for the week leading to the day) for the visual and olifactory, cards (store bought of course) for the emotional. All of this despite a mans instinct to ignore such ceremony.
What ever happened to the ritual of the day that was celebrated by a woman appearing in naughty knickers, with an ice cold beer, and offering up a knobber, despite conventional instruction not to enjoy such things?
Personally, I express my warmth for the day to my sweetie by
continuing to arrange for heating oil and fire wood for our home! I put aside a day of celebration on the anniversery of our first commited commercial partnership. She returns the sentiment by shunning any thoughts of marriage, despite our 20 years of union.
And here's a
secret Valentine shout out to BQ,TB, and CM. I hold respectful admiration for genuinely strong women that have endured (what I consider) genuine adversity in their lives, and can still gracefully Stand Their Ground.
